Court-approved.

She apologized.

Sort of.

I believed discipline made children strong.

I stopped reading.

That wasn't accountability.

That was explanation disguised as remorse.

Ryan agreed.

We didn't give Noah the letter.

Not yet.

Then a second arrived months later.

Different.

I hurt you. I frightened you. There is no excuse. You did nothing to deserve it.

I read that one to his therapist.

Eventually Noah chose to read it.

“Do I have to forgive her?”

“No.”

“Can I?”

“Yes.”

“Do you?”

“No.”

He nodded.

“Okay.”

He put the letter away.

His choice.
