Chapter 20 - RYAN WITHOUT LINDARyan lost his company.

The fraud investigation caught up with him.

He avoided prison through restitution and cooperation, but his career collapsed.

For the first time, Linda couldn't rescue him.

He got a job managing operations for a small construction supplier.

Normal salary.

Normal office.

No family money.

No mother fixing consequences.

No excuses.

Noah slowly started asking to spend more time with him.

Supervised visits became daytime visits.

Then weekends.

I watched carefully.

Ryan never demanded more.

One afternoon Noah spilled orange juice across Ryan’s kitchen table.

Everything stopped.

Noah froze.

Ryan froze.

I was there.

For one horrifying second, the kennel returned to all three of us.

Then Ryan picked up a towel.

“Accidents happen.”

Noah stared.

Ryan smiled weakly.

“Help me clean it?”

Noah nodded.

May you like

I turned away so neither saw me cry.

Sometimes healing was that small.
