Chapter 15 - THE ARRESTMark was found at Caroline’s farmhouse.
Not hiding.
Waiting.
He had gone there for the original ledger.
Caroline refused.
He threatened her.
Police arrived before it escalated.
Mark was arrested.
No cinematic shootout.
No dramatic escape.
Just handcuffs.
He looked at me as officers led him away.
“You think this ends with me?”
“I think it starts with you.”
He smiled.
“Ryan knew more.”
That sentence followed me home.
Of course it did.
Every revelation in this family opened another door.
Ryan came to my apartment that evening.
“I want to tell you everything.”
“No more pieces.”
“All of it.”
He admitted Linda had told him years earlier that Mark might have been responsible for Thomas’s death.
He chose not to ask questions.
Why?
Fear.
Again.
Fear of losing his company.
Fear of scandal.
Fear of discovering the truth.
“I didn't know for certain.”
“You made uncertainty an excuse.”
“Yes.”
“And Noah paid for it.”
“Yes.”
He cried.
