Chapter 4 - THE THIRD PERSONLily finally named the third person three days later.

Linda.

Not because Linda held her.

Because after Rebecca released Lily, Linda entered the laundry room.

She saw the swollen cheek.

Saw the bruises.

Then said:

“You need to stop making trouble for Grandpa.”

Daniel had to sit down when he heard.

Lily asked for him afterward.

He entered.

She looked at him nervously.

“Are you mad?”

“At you?”

She nodded.

“No.”

“Grandma said you would be.”

Daniel closed his eyes.

Again.

Every adult involved had used him as a threat.

Your father won’t believe you.

Your father will be angry.

Your father is dangerous.

Daniel realized why his own outburst at the party mattered.

He had accidentally validated their warnings.

That knowledge changed him more than any lecture could.

“I’m sorry I scared you when I got angry.”

Lily looked confused.

“You were mad at Grandma.”

“Yes.”

“But I was there.”

She nodded.

That was enough.

He understood.

Protection that terrifies the child is incomplete protection.

He needed to do better.
