Chapter 7 - ELEANOR SELLS THE DEBTEveryone expected Eleanor to take over Sterling House Interiors.

She did something else.
She sold the debt.
Not to a competitor.
Not to private equity.
To an employee ownership trust.
At a discount.
The trust acquired the lender position and gradually converted part of the debt into employee equity under professional management.
Michael was stunned.
“You gave away my company.”
“No.”
Eleanor corrected him.
“I stopped being the person who could use your company against you.”
That mattered.
If Eleanor kept the debt, Michael could spend the rest of his life claiming she wanted control.
Now that story died.
The employees became stakeholders.
Independent managers remained.
Michael kept a minority position after settling claims.
No throne.
No exile.
Consequences proportionate to reality.
Vanessa received nothing from the transaction.
She and Michael divorced within a year.
