That hurt Eleanor.
Not because Henry was right.
Because he had never told her fully.
Lydia opened a sealed memorandum Henry wrote before his death.
Eleanor will forgive Michael long after forgiveness becomes financially dangerous.
Eleanor stopped reading.
“That’s insulting.”
Lydia smiled sadly.
“It’s also affectionate.”
“Barely.”
Henry structured the loan with protections because he knew Eleanor might later waive repayment out of guilt.
The independent management clause could only be canceled with Lydia’s approval.
At the time Eleanor had been furious.
Now she understood.
Henry wasn’t protecting money from Michael alone.
He was protecting Eleanor from her own tendency to rescue him.
