Chapter 7 - CONNOR'S SECRETAt fifteen, Connor admitted something.

He hadn't recorded Diane initially to protect Grace.

He recorded because he wanted proof Diane lied.

The first time, she blamed him for breaking a vase Sabrina had broken.

Connor knew nobody would believe him.

So he began using the tablet.

Then he accidentally recorded how they treated Grace.

He felt guilty.

“I watched before I helped.”

Grace, now ten, stared at him.

“You were ten.”

“I could've told.”

“So could I.”

“You were five.”

Grace shrugged.

“You were scared too.”

Connor cried.

Grace hugged him.

Laura watched from across the room.

For years adults had called Connor brave.

He was.

But bravery after fear didn't erase fear.

He had been a child navigating adults with power.

Laura never wanted him turned into the heroic boy who should have stopped everything sooner.

Children weren't responsible for policing adults.

Connor's recordings helped expose the truth.

The responsibility for creating that truth belonged entirely to Diane and Sabrina.
