Rachel watched only the portions she needed.

“Because Mom was wearing her police clothes.”
The interviewer asked whether the uniform made him feel safe.
Noah shook his head.
Rachel's heart stopped.

“Mom makes me safe. The clothes meant Vanessa couldn't tell me she wasn't really my mom.”
