Chapter 6 - The Raid

While Julian, Preston, and Eleanor were trapped in the deposition, a fleet of black SUVs rolled through the gates of the Sterling estate.
Because we had introduced the financial discrepancies on the record, and Julian invoked the Fifth, the FBI had the final piece of probable cause they needed to execute a no-knock federal warrant.
Agents breached the mansion. They bypassed the private security, went straight to Julian’s home office, and cracked the biometric safe using a federal override code.
They found the master flash drive. They found the physical ledgers. They found the offshore banking tokens.
By the time the deposition concluded and Julian checked his phone, he had fourteen missed calls from his estate manager.
I stood in the hallway with Chloe as Julian listened to the voicemail. I watched the blood drain entirely from his body. He looked like a man who had just stepped on a landmine and heard the click.
He looked at me, sheer terror in his eyes.
