Chapter 10: The Morning After

Dawn broke over the sprawling estate, casting a pale, cold light across the manicured lawns and the grand facade of the mansion. Inside, the atmosphere was rigidly controlled. Beatrice’s private security detail, arranged directly by Julian’s corporate office, stood by the front doors waiting for her descent. True to his word, Julian had revoked all her privileges.

Beatrice walked down the grand staircase at precisely eight o'clock. She wore a tailored white wool coat and designer sunglasses, attempting to maintain an aura of aristocratic disdain, though her pale face and tight jaw betrayed her underlying fury. She carried a single designer overnight bag.

Julian stood waiting in the foyer near the base of the stairs, holding the blue ledger in one hand. Clara stood a respectful distance away, her posture calm and unwavering.

"You really intend to go through with this public humiliation?" Beatrice spat, stopping midway down the stairs and looking down at her husband with undisguised hatred. "You will destroy our social standing. The press will have a field day with the Vance divorce."

"The press will report whatever facts are presented to them," Julian replied evenly, his voice devoid of any emotion. "And thanks to the records in my grandfather’s safe, the facts show that your marriage was built on fraud, and your recent financial crimes have been fully documented."

Beatrice froze. She slowly removed her sunglasses, her eyes narrowing. "You opened the eastern wing."

"I did," Julian said. "I found the prenuptial addendum, the background reports, and the records of the trust fund diversions. Your access to the accounts is permanently severed, and copies of these documents are already with our corporate legal team."

For a long moment, the foyer was dead silent. Beatrice stared at him, realizing that every avenue of escape had been systematically sealed off. Her arrogance finally dissolved, replaced by a cold, bitter realization of her own undoing. She turned without another word and walked down the remaining steps, pushing past the security guards toward the waiting car outside. The heavy wooden doors closed behind her, sealing the chapter of deceit that had plagued the Vance household for years.

Julian exhaled slowly, the tension that had gripped his shoulders for months finally beginning to ease. He turned his gaze toward the private elevator at the back of the foyer just as the doors chimed softly and slid open.

Margaret emerged in her wheelchair, pushed smoothly by Clara. She looked serene, her gray cardigan neatly arranged, her eyes clear and bright in the morning light. She looked toward the closed front doors, then up at her son.

"Is it done?" Margaret asked quietly.

"It is done, Mother," Julian replied, walking over to her and kneeling beside the wheelchair, taking her frail hand in his. "The house is safe. The family legacy is secure."

Margaret squeezed his hand gently, offering a proud, reassuring smile. "It was never about the money, Julian. It was about protecting what matters most—our integrity, our home, and each other."
