Chapter 9 - THE RAIDThe federal raid came one week after Clara's interrupted funeral.

Vanguard headquarters.
Marcus Vance’s estate.
Three warehouses.
Two county offices.
Private airfield.
I watched from a secure room.
Vance tried to leave.
His jet never moved.
Federal marshals took him from his office.
No gun battle.
No last speech.
Handcuffs.
That almost disappointed me.
Then I remembered Clara.
Don't become them.
Good.
Let law do what rage wanted to do.
But Vance smiled while agents walked him out.
Why?
Because they had found the network.
Not the person above him.
A federal investigator told me:
“Vance isn't the top.”
My stomach tightened.
“Who is?”
May you like
“We don't know yet.”
The war I thought was ending had just become larger.
