“Isn't it difficult to keep the place where your mother was nearly killed?”
Daniel looked at the water.
“Not anymore.”
“Why?”
“Because it’s also where she learned to swim.”
The reporter smiled.
“That sounds symbolic.”
Daniel laughed.
“She would hate that.”
A rehabilitation group was using the shallow end.
One elderly woman gripped a rail.
An instructor stood beside her.
Years earlier, Margaret had clung to almost the same edge while someone above her decided whether she deserved help.
