Chapter 13 - THE PAINTING CALLED FALLING STARSElena painted the restaurant.

Not the chandelier falling.

The second before.

Matteo rolling his red car.

Crystal overhead.

Waitress entering frame.

Nobody knowing what comes next.

She called it:

Falling Stars.

A gallery wanted it.

She refused to sell.

Dante offered to buy it.

She laughed.

“No.”

Matteo asked:

“Can I have it?”

Elena looked at him.

“Why?”

“Because it’s when we met.”

That answer changed the painting.

For Elena, it was trauma.

For Matteo, survival.

For Dante, almost-loss.

Objects carried multiple meanings.

She gave it to Matteo under one condition.

“When you're older, you decide whether to keep it.”

He nodded solemnly.

Dante whispered:

“You gave him a six-figure painting.”

Elena stared.

“You checked?”

“Market research.”

“Control freak.”

May you like

“Artist.”

They smiled.
